Composition shingles perform well, especially given their affordable
price. Higher-quality versions made from asphalt or fiberglass shingles offer
durable options and may be available with recycled content. Composition shingles
come in a large selection of types, brands and colors, require little
maintenance and can be walked on without damage to the material. Most brands
offer Class-A fire protection—the highest fire rating available for residential
roofing. Although traditional composition roofing does not look like tile or
shake, new premium product lines have patterns to emulate a three-dimensional
look. Premium shingles are sometimes referred to as Presidential, with a thicker
profile designed to add dimension and detail to your roof.
Modern metal roofing has come a long way.
Now found in a wide variety of styles and colors, metal is perhaps the most
durable product on the market today. Available in shingle and shake styles,
metal roofing offers a lightweight, durable roofing options that can last 50
years or more. Metal roofs are durable, fire retardant and virtually
maintenance-free. When the right color is selected, many styles of metal roofing
provide a less expensive and lower maintenance option to cedar. Metal roofs are
particularly attractive for homes located in forested areas that require
frequent cleaning of leaves and needles. They are also used in areas of heavy
snowfall and where moss control is particularly critical and difficult.
The most common roofing used on flat roofs, torch down roofing
is sometimes referred to as rubberized asphalt. Asphalt is melted onto the roof
using a torch, creating an impermeable roof—important for the rain-drenched
winters of the Pacific Northwest. When properly installed and maintained, a
torch down roof can last 20 years. The cost is only slightly more than
traditional tar and gravel but gives superior protection from the elements.
Slate and Tile Roofing...
Buildorrepair provides experienced quality workmanship for slate and tile roof repair,
installation and restoration, including copper gutters and copper flashings.
Sometimes all that is needed is a few slate or tile repairs. When properly
maintained these roofs can last hundreds of years.
Typical slate and tile roof repair may involve a partial or complete
replacement of existing underlayment, using ice and water shield, particularly
on older and flatter sloped roofs. We fabricate and install copper gutters,
chimney flashings, valley flashings, finials, and other decorative sheet metal
items that are necessary to restore virtually any roof.
Buildorrepair has established an excellent reputation for customer satisfaction. Much
of our work comes by referral from previous customers. In addition, we also
install standard asphalt shingles, architectural shingles, copper scaled
shingles, copper-clad roll roofing, and other single-ply flat systems. We can
provide combinations of different materials to meet virtually any roofing need.
We offer distinct services in roofs repair and installation aiming at satisfying
our customer's needs.
Be Aware that Installation Problems Don't Show Up Immediately
Just because your roof has never leaked before does not mean the original
installation went smoothly. In fact, roofs most commonly fail because some
aspect of the original installation was done poorly. Problems caused by poor
installation often don't show up for five or ten years. By the time there's a
leak, the home has changed hands or the homeowner has no longer has any
recollection of who installed the roof. Then there are the lucky few homeowners
whose roofs fail simply because the materials have surpassed their useful life.
If your roof is starting to leak and is 15 years old or older, there is a good
chance that you'll need a new roof soon.
